Recently, we connected with Colin Jube, the Co-Founder and COO of Modal Living, to hear about his experience raising on SeedInvest and what the future has in store for the company.
- Amount Raised on SeedInvest: $985K
- Offering Type: Reg CF
SeedInvest: How did you find out about SeedInvest and what led you to choose this route of fundraising?
Colin Jube: We were interested in pursuing crowdfunding as we wanted to give our community the opportunity to invest in our mission of minimal independent living. Our team did research and had conversations with competing crowdfunding platforms and ended up choosing SeedInvest because we liked that the platform is highly curated and selective, which enabled us to gain more visibility. Our team also had very positive interactions with the team members and felt like this was a team that we could naturally collaborate with.
SeedInvest: What did you most value about fundraising on SeedInvest, and working with our team?
Colin Jube: The most valuable aspect was the dedicated team that worked closely with us from setup to close. Throughout the campaign, the team was very responsive and worked hard to ensure our campaign was successful. We received valuable feedback throughout the process and had a lot of help getting us through the process of building our campaign and going live.
SeedInvest: What was the greatest challenge you faced around fundraising? If you had to do it all over again, what would you approach differently?
Colin Jube: Our greatest challenge around our campaign was the decision around whether to engage an external marketing agency to promote our campaign. We ended up paying to set up a campaign that could be deployed if traction was lacking, which we didn’t end up needing due to great organic traction.
SeedInvest: What do you wish you had known going into the fundraising process on SeedInvest that you know now?
Colin Jube: We were initially a little nervous about how much traction our campaign would generate. Our team was incredibly excited and grateful for our community, who supported our mission and vision for the future of housing. Our campaign provided Modal significant exposure to external parties and we were approached by several VC’s and prospective partnerships during our campaign. We learned that a SeedInvest campaign provided additional benefits outside of just fundraising.
SeedInvest: If you could give one piece of advice to an entrepreneur looking to raise on SeedInvest what would it be?
Colin Jube: Our team would recommend entrepreneurs align with the SeedInvest team on your fundraising goals to understand if it is necessary to engage external marketing resources to reach your funding goal. This is critical to address before launching your campaign as it will take some time to prep.
Another piece of advice would be to produce a campaign video with compelling visual assets. Your campaign will likely resonate strongly with investors if you can communicate to them through a video medium, which can convey so much more than just a pitch deck.
SeedInvest: Now that you’ve had a successful raise, what does the next few months look like for Modal Living?
Colin Jube: We are excited to build on our past success and this raise will help us achieve the next milestones in our journey. In the next few months we plan to ramp up our digital marketing, build a display unit for the southern California market, and hire new members to our sales team. We are close to finalizing a few large multi-unit deals and will have some exciting manufacturing developments in the near horizon.
