Small businesses in Asia are highly “bankable” yet over 50% are unable to obtain a loan.
The simple reason boils down to economics. Banks have to spend the same amount of time to underwrite a $5 million loan compared to a $50,000 loan.
They use the same underwriting processes and ask for the same level of documentation, such as 3 years of audited financials, making it difficult for a small business owner to qualify.
Even if qualified, financing terms are rigid and not aligned with the success of the business owner.
Jenfi solves this problem by providing an automated digital platform to help business owners finance their growth.
The Jenfi platform utilizes revenue and alternative data via various data integrations to underwrite businesses quickly.
A typical borrower, such as an ecommerce merchant, simply connects their accounts, eg. Stripe and Facebook advertising account, to get an immediate offer for growth funding.
The borrower can choose repayment options that are tied to a percentage of their future sales.
We launched in Singapore in October 2019 and have originated over 75 loans to date, growing 73% over the past 4 months.
We typically lend $10-50k per loan with an annualized target return of 20-40%. Over 99% of companies are small businesses, translating to over 100 million small businesses in our target markets across the Asia Pacific region. This represents a large untapped $100B USD per annum market opportunity.
We realized this could work after seeing businesses experiencing sales growth with our capital and coming back for more. We see repeatable opportunities to continuously fund the growth of each business over their different life stages.
We aim to be the Clearbanc of Asia. The company is led by a serial entrepreneur (who sold his previous company to ClassPass) and backed by Y Combinator.

Preferred equity is usually issued to outside investors and carries rights and conditions that are different from that of common stock. For example, preferred equity may include rights that prevent or minimize the effects of dilution or grants special privileges in situations when the company is sold.
A convertible note is a unique form of debt that converts into equity, usually in conjunction with a future financing round. The investor effectively loans money to a startup with the expectation that they will receive equity in the company in the future at a discounted price per share when the company raises its next round of financing.

Currently there is no market or liquidity for these securities. Right now Jenfi does not plan to list these securities on a national exchange or another secondary market. At some point Jenfi may choose to do so, but until then you should plan to hold your investment for a significant period of time before a “liquidation event” occurs. A “liquidation event” is when Jenfi either lists their securities on an exchange, is acquired, or goes bankrupt.
