About Peace of Mind Company

Peace of Mind Company 's(POMCO) mission is to pioneer the next generation of personal safety, starting with the college campus community. POMCO’s patented hardware device, known as the POM, and accompanying software platform, combines to provide a fast, easy, reliable way of connecting with emergency help.

In the U.S. a violent crime occurs once every 25 seconds. In U.S. schools specifically, there have been over 160 shootings since 2013, which is about an average of one shooting per week.

Up to 90% of cellphone calls to 911 do not share location information. Nor do they share critical medical conditions, medications or picture of the caller.

POMCO believes that people need smarter, more effective ways of summoning emergency help. They believe getting the help needed should be simple, effective and immediately accessible.

The POM is a smart, keychain-sized safety device that, at the push of a button, alerts the nearest police or public safety department. Once activated, the POM instantly sends real-time GPS location information and initiates a two-way back and forth voice call with the nearest dispatcher. With POM’s technology, access to the closest emergency responder is at a user's fingertips.

What our current investors are saying*...

“From sexual assault to campus shootings - there is huge concern among colleges and universities across the country about how to keep their students, faculty and staff safe. We are excited to invest in POMCO because it offers a solution that will allow campus security and other personnel to respond to challenging situations in a coordinated way that will limit or stop incidents from occurring more quickly and with better real time information.”  - Jennifer Tegan, Cayuga Venture Fund

"I invested in POMCO and ultimately joined the team as CEO because it’s an incredibly attractive whitespace market opportunity. Right now there is a need in the college safety market that the POMCO solution addresses better than anything else I have seen by far. Timing, team and technology all aligned just right to give this venture a real shot at runaway success." - Chris Kelly, Founder at Treo Solutions (acquired by 3M)

What our current customers are saying*...

“The Sage Colleges have always been dedicated to student safety, and the POM allows us to concretely and visibly demonstrate that commitment to each and every student on campus.” - Trish Cellemme, Vice President of Student Affairs, Sage College

"This device helps make our already safe campus even safer. I would much prefer they use the POM than use their phone" - Ray Bessette, Chief of Police, Husson University

“It just makes you feel safe. You just hit a button and someone comes!” - Sage Freshmen

Product & Service

The POM is a keychain-sized personal safety device that’s Bluetooth connected with a person’s smartphone. The device is about the size of a half-dollar and clips onto keys, lanyards, backpacks, or fits comfortably in a pocket. If help is needed, a person simply depresses the button for 3 seconds to call the nearest police dispatch center and send over GPS location information and personal profile information of the caller. Within seconds, the police know a user's exact location, what the user looks like, any medical conditions the user has, their emergency contact information and any other critical information. They will also hear what’s going on via the device’s microphone, and if appropriate, they can talk back to users through the device’s speakers to provide instructions to stay safe.

The POM can help eliminate unnecessary fumbling for a phone to dial a number or use a safety app. One simple button push activates the response. There’s no need to fish out a phone, unlock it, put in a passcode, leaf through pages of apps to find an app, launch the app and then press a button. The POM allows users to press the button discretely (e.g., in a pocket) without taking their eyes off the situation or tipping off anyone around them.

POMCO asks schools, parents and students if their existing safety communication tools can call for help…

• In under 3 seconds?

• Discretely without anyone knowing?

• While running?

• With their eyes closed?

• With gloves on?

• With their phone in a purse or pocket?

• While ability impaired?

• Under duress without taking their eyes off the situation at hand

With the POM the answer is yes.  Additionally, POM’s geo-fencing technology will route calls directly to the campus police or nearest 911 dispatcher, so that the right person is getting the right information, quickly.

The POM includes other safety features as well.  Users can add their own contacts and discretely send a preprogrammed text to friends and relatives when they need an assist. Also, if the school declares an emergency, users get an audible alert through the POM with spoken directions to stay safe.

Team Story

Three years ago a grad student named Kevin was walking home through Philadelphia with his girlfriend Jess. On their way back to his apartment, they were confronted by a group of men, robbed, and Kevin was beaten unconscious. Hysterical and in-shock, Jess wasn’t able to get the help she needed fast enough and tragically Kevin passed away. Kevin was co-founder AJ Leahy’s best friend growing up. His death sparked an intense passion in AJ and his co-founder Lukas Lampe to create smarter, more effective emergency communication technology and help save lives.

POMCO team spent most of 2014 in research and development, working hands on with students and faculty at over a dozen campuses including Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Siena College, Rutgers University, Union College, and University at Albany. The result of which was the launch of their first minimum viable product.

In Fall 2014, they shifted into a Beta/Pilot testing phase with three campuses in the Albany, NY region. The feedback from students and administrators was so positive that not only did they extend the pilot through the 2015 Spring Semester, but at the end of the year they signed a 4-year contract to provide devices to their entire student body.

After a year of testing and iterating their MVP, in September of 2015 they launched our Gen 1 product, the POM. In their first 100 days of their new product in the market, they picked up 15 new clients. By the end of the 2016 Spring Semester POMCO had 20 college partners, with over 2,500 Gen 1 devices deployed. They are now a few months away from launching Gen 2, with all-new features and functionality based entirely on feedback from their existing customer base.

"We are tight-knit group of dreamers and do-ers devoted to protecting everyone’s friends and family as if they were our own."

Frequently Asked Questions

Making an Investment in Peace of Mind Company
How does investing work?

When you complete your investment on SeedInvest, your money will be transferred to an escrow account where an independent escrow agent will watch over your investment until it is accepted by Peace of Mind Company. Once Peace of Mind Company accepts your investment, and certain regulatory procedures are completed, your money will be transferred from the escrow account to Peace of Mind Company in exchange for your shares. At that point, you will be a proud owner in Peace of Mind Company.

What is the difference between preferred equity and a convertible note?

Preferred equity is usually issued to outside investors and carries rights and conditions that are different from that of common stock. For example, preferred equity may include rights that prevent or minimize the effects of dilution or grants special privileges in situations when the company is sold.

A convertible note is a unique form of debt that converts into equity, usually in conjunction with a future financing round. The investor effectively loans money to a startup with the expectation that they will receive equity in the company in the future at a discounted price per share when the company raises its next round of financing.

To learn more about startup investment types check out “How to Choose a Startup Investment” in our academy.

What will I need to complete my investment?

To make an investment, you will need the following information readily available:

  2. Employment and employer information
  3. Net worth and income information
  4. Social Security Number or government-issued identification
  5. ABA bank routing number and checking account number (typically found on a personal check or bank statement)

Because Peace of Mind Company is offering its securities under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D, your status as an Accredited Investor will also need to be verified and you will be asked to provide documentation supporting your income, net worth, revenue, or net assets or a letter from a qualified advisor such as a Registered Investment Advisor, Registered Broker Dealer, Lawyer, or CPA.

What if I change my mind about investing?

Until a closing occurs, you may cancel your investment at any time, for any reason. You will receive an email when the closing occurs and your shares have been issued. If you have already funded your investment and your funds are in escrow, your funds will be promptly refunded to you upon cancellation. To cancel your investment, please go to your portfolio page.

After My Investment
How can I sell my shares in the future?

Currently there is no market or liquidity for these shares. Right now Peace of Mind Company does not plan to list these shares on a national exchange or another secondary market. At some point Peace of Mind Company may choose to do so, but until then you should plan to hold your investment for a significant period of time before a “liquidation event” occurs. A “liquidation event” is when Peace of Mind Company either lists their shares on an exchange, is acquired, or goes bankrupt.

How do I keep track of this investment?

You can return to SeedInvest at any time to view your portfolio of investments and obtain a summary statement.
