About Trendalytics

Trendalytics is a market intelligence platform for consumer brands and retailers

Unlike incumbents in the $4.4 billion retail analytics market, our patent-pending technology structures market data on product classifications (e.g. backpacks vs. messenger bags) and related attributes (e.g. fringe, leather). Our platform connects the dots across social media images, online product searches and millions of SKUs shopped across thousands of sites.

Trendalytics provides industry leaders like Swarovski, Fossil and Li & Fung product and marketing insights on WHAT categories to focus on, WHERE to target inventory and marketing spend and WHEN to time deliveries and campaigns based on consumer behaviors.

Notable clients include:

- Two nationwide mass retailers

- Global sourcing and manufacturing company

- Luxury holding company

- Brands that sell apparel, footwear, watches and jewelry

- Multiple rapidly growing e-commerce retailers

WHY WE'RE DOING THIS

Karen's frustration working in retail was not having data to support decisions when trends were changing. She spent one month on a project gathering competitive data on products and pricing to identify patterns to validate decisions. Not only could she have completed that work with Trendalytics, she would have had real-time updates going forward. Not staying ahead of consumers and the competition is why many retailers fail.

Kevin loves developing software that demonstrates immediate value for clients. After several years at Microsoft, he finds having a closer connection to the solution discovery and innovation process with companies rewarding. Karen and Kevin met at WeWork while building separate startups in the social commerce space. They realized their visions were aligned and decided to join forces.

Although the increasing levels of consumer preference data across social platforms, search engines and e-commerce sites presents a competitive advantage, most companies lack engineering and analytical talent to discern actionable insights from “big data” to improve consumer demand forecasting and profitability. Trendalytics has recruited a strong team of retail experts and enterprise software developers to solve this pain point for consumer brands and retailers

Meet the Founders

Karen Moon

Co-founder & CEO

With over ten years of experience in retail and technology, Karen worked with companies across the supply chain - department stores, luxury retailers and independent designers. At Goode Partners, she executed the firm’s investment in SkullCandy (NASDAQ: SKUL) and worked on the turnaround of a luxury specialty retailer. Previously she worked in Gap Inc.’s Corporate Strategy group, where she assessed acquisition and new retail concept opportunities such as Piperlime.com. Karen started her career in investment banking at Goldman Sachs & Co. where she executed over $1 billion in technology and media transactions. Karen holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from UCLA where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Her research at Harvard included studies in multi-channel retailing, luxury diffusion brands and supply chain innovation for emerging designers.

Kevin He

Co-founder & CTO

Full Stack Software Engineer.  Prior to founding Trendalytics, Kevin was a software engineer at Microsoft. At Microsoft, he was part of a 3 person dev team that incubated and scaled RapidStart AX, a cloud based tool that dramatically reduces the time and cost for ERP integration. Kevin holds a Masters in Computer Science from Binghampton University.

Frequently Asked Questions

Making an Investment in Trendalytics
How does investing work?

When you complete your investment on SeedInvest, your money will be transferred to an escrow account where an independent escrow agent will watch over your investment until it is accepted by Trendalytics. Once Trendalytics accepts your investment, and certain regulatory procedures are completed, your money will be transferred from the escrow account to Trendalytics in exchange for your shares. At that point, you will be a proud owner in Trendalytics.

What is the difference between preferred equity and a convertible note?

Preferred equity is usually issued to outside investors and carries rights and conditions that are different from that of common stock. For example, preferred equity may include rights that prevent or minimize the effects of dilution or grants special privileges in situations when the company is sold.

A convertible note is a unique form of debt that converts into equity, usually in conjunction with a future financing round. The investor effectively loans money to a startup with the expectation that they will receive equity in the company in the future at a discounted price per share when the company raises its next round of financing.

To learn more about startup investment types check out “How to Choose a Startup Investment” in our academy.

What will I need to complete my investment?

To make an investment, you will need the following information readily available:

  1. Personal information such as your current address and phone number
  2. Employment and employer information
  3. Net worth and income information
  4. Social Security Number or government-issued identification
  5. ABA bank routing number and checking account number (typically found on a personal check or bank statement)

What if I change my mind about investing?

Until a closing occurs, you may cancel your investment at any time, for any reason. You will receive an email when the closing occurs and your shares have been issued. If you have already funded your investment and your funds are in escrow, your funds will be promptly refunded to you upon cancellation. To cancel your investment, please email us at cancellations@seedinvest.com. Please include your name, the company's name, the amount, the investment number, and the date your made your investment.

After My Investment
How can I sell my shares in the future?

Currently there is no market or liquidity for these shares. Right now Trendalytics does not plan to list these shares on a national exchange or another secondary market. At some point Trendalytics may choose to do so, but until then you should plan to hold your investment for a significant period of time before a “liquidation event” occurs. A “liquidation event” is when Trendalytics either lists their shares on an exchange, is acquired, or goes bankrupt.

How do I keep track of this investment?

You can return to SeedInvest at any time to view your portfolio of investments and obtain a summary statement.
